Sikorsky S-92

.

The Sikorsky S-92 is an evolution of Sikorsky’s S-70 US Army Black Hawk and US Navy Seahawk helicopters. The Sikorsky S-92 was announced in March 1992, but an official program launch had to wait until the Paris Air Show in June 1995. First parts were built in 1996, starting with the main transmission housing. Assembly operations at Stratford began in 1997. Five prototypes are being built at Stratford for ground and flight tests to be conducted at the West Palm Beach Development Fight Center in Florida. The maiden flight December 23, 1998 consisted of eight takeoffs and landings and included hover, forward and sideward flight maneuvers. The first two helicopters are fitted with General Electric CT7-6D engines, while the others will get the CT7-8.  First delivery was on September 27, 2004 to Petroleum Helicopters Inc.

The Sikorsky S-92 is available in a number of variants.

  • S-92A civil transport version has an airliner-type interior which comfortably seats for 19 passengers.

  • S-92 utility transport version has 22 side-facing seats in a large, stand-up cabin with a full cabin width rear ramp. The 20,76 m³ interior cabin area can also be configured to accommodate up to three airline-style LD-3 cargo containers.

  • H-92 Super hawk is the military variant has more powerful GE CT7-8C engines, rated at 2.300 kW. The mission roles of the H-92 Super hawk include military utility, Head-of-State transport, anti-submarine warfare and combat search and rescue.

  • H-92 SAR (search and rescue) variant provides space for seats, litters, auxiliary fuel and SAR emergency equipment.

  • The VH-92 VIP version has interior options that include galley, toilet facilities, coat closet and several seating and work station configurations which can include swivel chairs, divans, tables and cabinets.

  • CH-148 Cyclone is a replacement for Sea King helicopters currently in service with the Canadian Forces.
